Why choose a paving retaining wall?
Paving retaining walls combine aesthetics and functionality. They allow you to:
Stabilize sloping land: By retaining the earth, they prevent landslides.
Delimit spaces: They create different levels in your garden.
Add character: The many paving stone models offer a wide variety of styles. (We recommend the 180mm thick blocks)
The stages of construction
Ground preparation:
Mark out the area: Use stakes and rope to mark out the exact outline of the wall.
Digging the foundations: The depth of the foundations will depend on the height of the low wall and the nature of the terrain.
Lay a geotextile: This fabric prevents soil from penetrating the drain and ensures better stability.
Building the base:
Install a French drain: This drain allows water that could accumulate behind the wall to be evacuated.
Lay a layer of gravel: Gravel ensures good drainage.
Laying the first rows of paving stones: Make sure they are level.
Construction of the low wall:
Laying the paving stones: Following the plan, lay the paving stones, fitting them into each other.
Install the geogrid membrane*: Between 2 rows of blocks along the entire wall
Check the level: Use a spirit level to ensure that each row is perfectly horizontal.
Add mortar or PL glue: Apply mortar between the joints for better adhesion.
Finishing:
Filling the space behind the wall: Use clean gravel up to 6 inches below the coping and fill in topsoil as needed.
Planting: For harmonious integration into your garden.
*Geogrids are synthetic materials that are used to reinforce soil and similar materials. They are commonly used in civil engineering projects to improve soil stability and strength. By distributing stress over a larger area, geogrids can help prevent soil erosion, reduce settlement, and increase the load-bearing capacity of soil.
Materials and tools needed
Pavers/blocks for low walls and copings: Choose pavers suited to the height and style of your low wall.

Geotextile & Geogrid: For drainage.
Gravel: For the base of the wall.
French drain: To evacuate water.
Stakes and rope: To mark out the area.
Spirit level: To check horizontality.
Trowel: apply the mortar.
Rubber mallet: For adjusting the paving stones.
